“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us… but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.” (Titus 3:4–6 ESV)

Are there any special qualities of God’s character that always draw you back to him?

Lately I’ve been thinking about how Jesus is the embodiment of God’s tender mercy and loving kindness. The warmth and gentleness we’ve been shown in the midst of our shame is not of this world. The Father sending his Son as a Savior for us all is the height of lavish, selfless love. And when I wander, this truth always wins my wayward heart.

I can’t get past God’s kindness, and I can’t get enough.

The truth is, our debt is paid. Jesus has triumphed over the grave, which was the wage of our sin (Romans 6:23). He spoke of his triumph on the cross saying, “It is finished” (John 19:30). And his death was enough. The wrath of God was completely satisfied through the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf.

You’ve been washed white as snow. Take a moment right now and open your thankful heart to this kind, loving, gracious King. Even if you’ve been wandering from him or hiding from him, I encourage you to stop where you are and face him, just so you can see his smile for yourself. He’s always ready to warmly welcome you home.
