A Prayer for the Middle East

Praying for peace

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. -Ephesians 6:12

Lord,

Just as you have chosen Israel and walked alongside her people, you have also prayed for them long before you rescued them from slavery and formed them into a nation. During times of international conflict, we struggle to have the words to pray, but thanks to your word, our prayers for your land and your people have only to agree with the ones you’ve already uttered.

You have a heart for the people of Israel as well as the people of Palestine. Please help us not to forget all who are suffering because of this conflict.. As we attempt to decipher what we see on the news and social media, we humbly ask that you grant us your wisdom, Jesus, that the mind of Christ may rest on us.

We also ask, Lord, that you would give the leaders on all sides of the conflict wisdom leading to peace. You say of Jerusalem in your word that you will be a “wall of fire all around and the glory in her midst” (Zechariah 2:5), so we pray, Lord, that you would do that in miraculous ways in the coming weeks, both in a collective and individual sense. We pray the nation would stand in awe of your protective covering over them and that her inhabitants would experience your presence in ways they never have before. We pray that the name of Jesus be magnified in unmistakable ways to Jews and Muslims alike. Protect, strengthen, and grant wisdom to Christians throughout the region to care for those caught in the midst of turmoil.

We pray that you might grant victory to those who seek to follow you in righteousness. You are the only one who can annihilate evil ideology, and we pray that through the prayers of your people, you might bring your presence and peace to the Middle East.

We trust you, Jesus, and we ask these things in your beautiful name. Amen.
